Composer Mulatu Astatke imagined his music more than forty years ago. Known as the father of "Ethio-jazz", he has been credited with creating a new genre that blends Ethiopian music and jazz. Banning Eyre, senior editor at Afropop Worldwide, reviews Astatke's new album Sketches of Ethiopia and says it's surprising and bears the mark of a master.
